Now boys and girls, this is how u save money and still be able to own a new pair of funky working shoes.
My new job requires me to have black shoes on, and my only durable black pair is my Crocs Prima, but it’s still not comfy enough for me to last the day standing and walking in it. So I’ve decided to get a new pair that I could avoid going home with swelled up feet and dislocated toes. However, when I went to Kmart with Huey Chi, the only ‘comfy’ black canvas shoes that we found (in the kids department…) was 25bux and it wasn’t even nice.
I wouldn’t wanna spend 25bux on something ugly and will be roughly used to step on stuff that’s fallen off sandwiches. So… we drove around the corner to a hardware store, and I bought a can of spray paint for $4.50. It was on specials. FYI, one has to be over 18 to buy spray paint. (No wonder they’ve such cool graffiti around… they’re not done by kids)
Yesterday evening, I took my old pair of Adidas, which has served me well for 4 years, out to my backyard with a wide grin, shaking the can vigorously (as stated in the instructions).
It took me awhile to get the cap opened as my heart pumped its way in excitement. I protected the brick-tiled floor with my old assignment sheets, laid the shoe on them and stuffed more ex-assignments inside to protect the inner fabric.
Once the spraying started, I took off and flew like a pro. A spray paint pro. Moving my way along the hinges, curves and grids. My white Adidas with pink stripes turned black and shinny within minutes! Ho ho ho, I had so much fun!
And for the shoelace, I didn’t think that spray painting it would work cuz it may crack when dried. Then a brilliant idea fell from the sky. I shall dye it with the Chinese calligraphy ink which Tim gave me in my 2nd year that was supposed to be used in Easter Camp but the plans changed and it has been sitting in my cupboard (and followed me all the way from my 1st home to now my 3rd) since! Man, I’m a genius! See, it’s good to keep junk. But then again, this is not junk. It’s something from Tim! ... just... totally useless. Not until now. Muahahah…
There, my brand new shinny black shoes which I like a lot! And its comfy too! I could work all day in those funky new shoes. I’m so proud of myself.
